Polarized capacitor

A polarized capacitor is a type of capacitor that has a specific orientation for proper operation. These capacitors are designed to handle a direct current (DC) voltage in one direction, and they have a positive and a negative terminal. Connecting them with the wrong polarity can lead to damage or even failure. Examples of polarized capacitors include aluminum electrolytic capacitors and tantalum electrolytic capacitors. See non-polarized capacitors.
